When the owners of this 20 year old home situated in Thornton, decided it was time to create some extra room and give the home a makeover, they called Hunter renovation builders P & D Kay Constructions. This well loved, brick and tile, 3 bedroom home had outgrown it’s family and it was definitely time for some changes.
To bring the outdated home back to life, the home owners relied on the advice and expertise of our team to build a modern, functional home extension that worked with the existing floor plan.
Once the timber frame and roof trusses were installed, you could really appreciate how well the new structure and existing building would be integrated.
To create a ‘new home’ feel inside and out, the owners decided to have the exterior of the home rendered to give the home a modern facade. The homes roof was also replaced with a new colorbond roof, allowing the home extension to flow seamlessly with the existing roof. New plumbing and electrical wiring was installed for the new kitchen, living spaces and master bedroom.
The open layout of the new white kitchen and white painted walls in the dining and living areas allow light to reflect in the room. The kitchen is definitely the heart of this home and the white walls against the warmth of the timber flooring work well in the space.
The crisp white kitchen is complete with stone benchtop and a large 900mm freestanding stainless steel cooker. There is ample storage in the main kitchen area with an oversized walk-in pantry cleverly concealed behind sliding doors. The natural stone feature that is installed on the face of the island bench adds a nice touch.
The timber floors continue into living areas and the hallway and all internal and external entry doors were replaced. To complete the transformation, the entire home was also painted throughout.
The new covered alfresco entertaining is complete with an outdoor bar to suit the clients entertaining needs.
The option of installing modern bifold stacker doors allows a seamless flow from indoors and outdoors, allowing the home owners plenty of space to entertain friends and family. The fly-over style roof line on the outdoor living space is positioned high enough to ensure that natural light still floods into the home.
The new master bedroom and ensuite located in the new home extension gives the home owners a great space to retreat to. The light coloured walls and the white modern window shutters contrast well with the darker tone plush carpet.
A brand new contemporary styled bathroom ensuite completes the master suite and smart choice of white wall tiles, charcoal vanity and grey floor tiles means this bathroom won’t date in a hurry.
The clever decision to install ducted air conditioning throughout the home during the construction phase, means year-round comfort for the home owners immediately and more importantly it alleviates the hassle of trying to run pipe and ductwork at a later date which has the potential to disturb new gyprock and paintwork.
The new laundry is now a very functional and bright space thanks to the new white cabinetry which provides lots of extra storage and bench space and clear glazing in the external door allows light to flood the room.
This home is a great example of what you can do to a 20+ year old home that just doesn’t have enough space, or is just looking a bit tired and outdated.
With the new spacious extension to the rear, a new outdoor living area, new kitchen, new laundry, new bathrooms, new flooring and new paint job throughout, the home is now as good as new!
The owners of the home were very happy with the results and as always, we are very proud of the entire P & D Kay Constructions team and the finished project.
